What counts as success differs with individuals and, of course, at different levels. At Varenka we compete at the top level, so rightly we aim for high success and after almost 30 years we could fill a book; most likely bore our readers; and certainly strain our memories, so instead we have listed just some of our highlights.
Champions
Our Role of Honour in our home page tells it all. Varenka holds the record for the number of Scottish bred Rottweilers gaining their UK Kennel Club title, and there are many multiple Varenka CC winning dogs and bitches we could have included.
Crufts
Over the years, countless Varenka Rottweilers have competed at Crufts and many have gained that coveted 1st place win in their class. Best of Breed, Crufts 2006 was won by Varenka Chinese Whispers at the young age of 16 months - an impressive win for this young bitch considering in the challenge for Best of Breed she went head-to-head with her Sire UK, Aus & Nz Champion Rolex Rumour Has It at Fantasa (The Breed record holder) and to complete a great Crufts she took group 4th in the big ring.
UK Annual breed awards
These top spots are won on a points system by Dog World & Our Dogs in conjunction as sponsors and the results in each breed announced at the end of each year.
2006 UK Top Rottweiler Brood Bitch Winner, our own Champion Camregans Smart Ally at Varenka
2004 UK Top Rottweiler Puppy Winner , our own Champion Varenka Smart Move
2004 UK Top Rottweiler brood Bitch Winner, Varenka all That Jazz at Camregan
Jazz & Ally are mother and daughter, proving the strength of the Varenka bitch line.
Dog of the year
Eastern Counties Rottweiler Dog of the Year - the most prestigious competition in the breed - where all the UK breed clubs send a dog and bitch to represent them, was first held 20 years ago. Our own Ch Varenka the Secret Agent JW had the honour and distinction of becoming the very first winner.
Oct 2006 was the competition s 20th anniversary and we were delighted that Varenka Chinese Whisper completed her excellent year by again winning this coveted Dog of The Year title, proving Varenka s long term consistency in producing winners.
Scottish Rottweiler Club s Dog of the year
Varenka are proud on home ground to hold the record of winning the Scottish Trophy more times, and with more individuals, at Scotland s Premier competition. And Nov 2006 saw our top winning youngster Varenka Just Joe (at only 12 months) lift this award yet again.
Pat Dog of the year
Varenka Touch of Magic, a.k.a. Beckey, made breed history in Nov 2006 by not only being chosen as one of six national finalists, but on the day being awarded the title of Pat Dog of the Year. Such an award proves how loyal, gentle and trustworthy a well bred, socialised and trained Rottweiler can be. For the full story, please go to the above link.
Junior Warrants
Champion Varenka Magic Madam has the distinction of still being the youngest JW winner in the breed. She, a.k.a. Sula , was born in 1984 and won this on the day she turned 9 months. All points were at championship shows and she finished with enough points to win 3 JWs.
Crufts Obedience
Varenka the Bold Bomber and Varenka Lady Be Good both had the great honour of representing Scotland in the national team (all mixed breeds) - proving Rottweilers willingness to please.
Breed club Championship Shows
Varenka dogs and bitches over the years have won Best in Show at many of the specialist club shows both in Scotland and in the UK.
Family pet/companion
Titles, trophies and rosettes are of course a measure of a breeder s success. But considering only a very small minority of Rottweilers bred are ever shown or compete, then how do you judge those who live as family pets and companions?
Well for us a priority is seeing and hearing of our pups and the way they live a happy, healthy life and who more than meet the expectations of their owners. Success is owning a Rottweiler who is typical of the breed; looks great; and who behaves like a Rottweiler. Irene and myself place great importance on our success with all of our pups.
